The year 1983 saw the on-screen birth of two of the decades major players, Tom Cruise and Eddie Murphy.
Although Cruise had been in previous films, "Risky Business" made his name a household word amongst
the younger set and made Ray-Bans the sunglasses of choice; Eddie Murphy, fresh from "Saturday Night
Live" success, burst onto the big screen with "Trading Places" opposite Dan Aykroyd. Cold War tension
and the onslaught of home computers made "WarGames" an instant classic while Jennifer Beals brought the
fashion trend of ripped-clothing into the mainstream via "Flashdance."
