Notes:
Cheers, a bar located in downtown Boston, was the setting for this half-hour sitcom. Sam "Mayday" Malone (Danson), the bar's owner, was a former pitcher for the Red Sox, a reformed alcoholic, and an infamous womanizer.

The series was created by Glen Charles, Les Charles, and James Burrows, who had also worked together on Taxi.

Its theme, "Where Everybody Knows Your Name," was recorded by Gary Portnoy, who wrote it with Judy Hart Angelo; the song was nominated for an Emmy in 1983.

Cheers is the most nominated series in history with 117. It is followed by M*A*S*H with 109, and Hill Street Blues with 98.

Cheers is the second-most winning series in history having won 27 Emmys. First is The Mary Tyler Moore Show with 29, then Cheers with 27, followed closely by Hill Street Blues (26), and The Carol Burnett Show (25).

Cheers is tied with The Dick Van Dyke Show and All in the Family for the most "Best Comedy" wins (4).

Kelsey Grammer is the only performer to have been nominated for Emmy awards for portraying the same character on three different shows. The character, of course, is Frasier, and he was nominated for Cheers, Wings, and Frasier.
