Jodie Foster (Alicia Christian Foster) began acting practically as soon as she could walk and speak. She made numerous television and film appearances throughout her childhood. Her most memorable starring role as a child actress was the 12-year-old prostitute Iris in the 1976 movie "Taxi Driver". This was the movie that caused John Hinckley, Jr. to become obsessed with her, and he may have been acting out the movie when he
attempted to assassinate Ronald Reagan. Foster has never openly talked about the Hinckley stalkings, which took place while she was a student at Yale.
Though Foster was nominated for an Academy Award for her work in "Taxi Driver", her first Academy Award did not come until her 1988 film "The Accused." She picked up a second Academy Award in 1991
for "The Silence of the Lambs" and a nomination for 1994's "Nell." |
